Hollywood’s legendary El Capitan Theatre celebrated Earth Day with the debut of Disney nature’s, ‘Earth,’ an extraordinary new film from Disney’s newest banner. The El Capitan engagement runs through May 26, and features a live stage show called ‘Animals From Around the World,’ spotlighting wildlife experts sharing the unique characteristics of exotic animals in their care.
And, exclusively, during the run at the El Capitan, audiences will have a chance to see the new 4,000sqft painting inspired by the film, ‘Earth,’ and painted by Wyland, the world’s best-loved environmental artist.
The El Capitan also teamed up with Southern California Edison and Greenlite Lighting Corporation to ‘Change the world’ by providing energy efficient CFL lightbulbs for home use. For a minimum donation of 25 cents, guests will receive a CFL bulb which uses 75% less energy than standard bulbs. All proceeds will benefit green projects in Los Angeles public schools (grades PreK-8) in the Hollywood area.
Additionally, displays will offer entertaining and educational insights into Disney’s Worldwide Conservation Fund and efforts to study and protect polar bears, whales, African elephants and ecosystems.
“‘Earth’ is a unique and fantastic way for families to explore our planet, learn about the wildlife that inhabits it, and be enormously entertained at the same time. And the El Capitan is the perfect place to experience this phenomenal film with its state-of-the-art digital projection, live stage show with exotic live animals, and the debut of an original work of art by a world famous artist.”
“We’re proud to help increase awareness for conserving energy by distributing CFL light bulbs and to be supporting conservation by planting trees in one of the most endangered rain forests in the world on behalf of our patrons. Disney has a great legacy of creating groundbreaking nature films, and this first movie from Disneynature builds upon that foundation and takes it to new heights,” said Lylle Breier, SVP worldwide special events for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
