The New York Times has announced the introduction on May 24 of a new section, Metropolitan, in its Sunday edition. Metropolitan will include narrative profiles, reported essays and innovative storytelling about New York and its suburbs.
“Metropolitan will be a showcase for some of our top journalists to bring readers to unexplored corners of our neighborhoods and institutions,” said Joe Sexton, Metro editor, The New York Times.
“Even as we are making difficult choices in a difficult economy, the new Sunday section continues our commitment to unmatched local coverage.”
Columns in Metropolitan include:
Metropolitan will periodically feature additional columns such as ‘Deconstructed,’ the back story of an iconic figure; ‘On The Records,’ a look at the documents behind news stories and newsmakers; and ‘Street Takes,‘ a storyboard version of gritty videos about unusual people and places.
Metropolitan will also include four pages of restaurant, art and theater reviews, and local cultural listings geared individually to New Jersey , Connecticut , Westchester and Long Island readers.
The new section will replace The City section and the New Jersey , Connecticut , Westchester and Long Island sections, which were eliminated to cut costs, as well as the New York report pages in the main news section.
