Mekanism Creates High Impact Visuals For CaT Conference
PRESS RELEASE

May 2009

Mekanism has put together a rich visual introduction for the upcoming inaugural Creativity and Technology (CaT) conference, scheduled for June 3 in New York.

A stop-motion short, directed by Emmett Feldman, is the centerpiece of the work and sets the framework for the conference's marketing and website design.

In approaching a conference that combines big ideas with cutting edge technology, Mekanism's lead motion graphics artist, Emmett Feldman, worked alongside web developer Gabriel Dunn on the project.

The stop-motion animation shot by Feldman features the use of a unique real-time visual application developed and coded specifically for the CaT project which gave Feldman the ability to play with perspective and generate simple 3D geometry.

The final work combined the 3D work with 2D animations in After Effects.

The video is an abstracted look into dazzling electronic world in which an increasingly complex sequence of geometric shapes descends upon the center of a black universe.

The shapes grow out of a LCD screen "garden bed", intertwining and melding together to reveal the blocky outlines of the CaT logo, followed by a simple display of the various sponsors' logos.

The piece fuses technical design tools for a twist on the traditional animation art form, combining creative and technological minds to create a beautiful and engaging piece of work.

The CaT event is a conference and trade show that serves as a gathering place for creative brand professionals and technology companies from across the industry landscape.

Creatives, producers and marketers can learn, hands-on, about the latest technologies driving their work and hear from industry leaders, including speakers from Goodby, North Kingdom, Barbarian Group and others.

Panels, case studies, and a gallery for tech suppliers to display their products will also be available, in addition to a showcase of the best young digital talent, which will culminate in a citation for the best digital creative portfolio.

"This was a great opportunity for us," noted Mekanism President/EP Jason Harris.

"The merging of technology with creative work is a trend that has had a huge impact on our business in the past two years and we're pleased to have been asked by Creativity to participate in designing the look and feel of the inaugural event."

"When you're hosting an event for the best of the best in the industry, everything that appears onscreen has to be top-notch," said Creativity Editor Teressa Iezzi.

"Mekanism really impressed. As usual, they delivered a comprehensive, creative, exciting campaign that spoke perfectly to their target audience."
