Amazon.fr Launches Amazon MP3 Music Service
PRESS RELEASE

June 2009

Amazon.fr has launched Amazon MP3 (www.amazon.fr/mp3), a simple-to-use digital music store offering over 5.5 million DRM-free (Digital Rights Management) tracks and albums across many genres, which will work on any MP3 player including the iPod.

“Amazon is excited to provide customers in France with more ways to find, discover and buy music,” said Greg Greeley, VP, Amazon EU Retail.

“With the launch of Amazon MP3 in France, customers can find a vast selection of digital music along with millions of low-priced CDs available on Amazon.fr.”

Amazon MP3’s growing selection of over 5.5 million songs includes all four major labels–Sony Music, Universal Music, EMI Music and Warner Music–and leading independents such as Naïve, Beggars Group, Abeille Musique, Believe, The Orchard, IODA, Warp, PIAS, Wagram and many more. The selection covers every genre from pop and metal to classical, from indie and jazz to hip-hop and from electro and French variety to rock, with new tracks being added every day.

"We are delighted to extend our relationship with Amazon which, after the US, the UK, and Germany, now also includes France where the Amazon online shop is now offering both physical and digital formats from EMI Music's roster of artists. Amazon.fr's easy-to-use, attractive, and legal digital site is a win/win for artists, fans, and the music industry," said Olivier Montfort, president, EMI Music France.

“We warmly welcome the arrival of an actor such as Amazon MP3 in the market of legal digital music, which is especially timely when legislative steps are in place to support this development. This launch can only abet the activity and contribute to converting new music fans to legal offerings,” said Christophe Lameignere, president, Sony Music.

“Warner Music France is happy to be associated with a world leader in online retailing and to offer its users our large repertoire of music in digital format. One of our main objectives is to make legal access to music easier for as many people as possible. I’m confident that Amazon MP3 will be a great addition to the French market, as it has in the US and other territories around the world. We wish the Amazon team all the best for the launch of their new service,” said Thierry Chassagne, president, Warner Music France

Every song and album in the Amazon MP3 music download store is available encoded at 256 kbps to deliver high audio quality. Amazon MP3 customers are free to enjoy their music downloads using any hardware device, including PCs, Macs, iPods, Walkmans, Zens, iPhones, RAZRs, and BlackBerrys; organize their music using any music management application, such as iTunes or Windows Media Player and burn songs to CDs for personal use. Using the Amazon Downloader, DRM-free songs will download in a matter of seconds to a customer’s preferred media library (iTunes or Windows Media Player).
