PRESS RELEASE

July 2009

Students and alumni from the Academy of Art University’s School of Graphic Design walked away from the second AIGA Cause/Affect Design Competition with ten awards in five different categories, including Best in Show and two Judges Choice awards.

The Cause/Affect competition, created to celebrate the work of designers and organizations who set out to positively impact society, received 270 entries from six different countries. A total of 33 winners were named, with Academy students and alums taking home 10 of those titles.

“Determining how to apply our skills to social change is one of the most pressing issues facing designers today. This pioneering competition reflects a global need for design while simultaneously demonstrating the possibilities it represents. The fact that so many of our students and alums are leading the charge in the design industry’s call to arms is a tremendous source of pride for us as instructors and as citizens” said Phil Hamlett, Graduate Director, School of Graphic Design, Academy of Art University.
