Former RCA Director Launches New Company
David Gordon has announced the launch of his new firm, Gordon Advisory LLC, which will assist leaders of cultural institutions nationally and internationally in the areas of governance, planning, organization and finance. He is formerly the Director and CEO of the Milwaukee Art Museum and Secretary (Director) of the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Gordon Advisory will offer a number of services including institutional audits, strategic planning, and organizational review and guidance on building extensions or building new institutions. Projects include working with the Tate in London on aspects of revenue enhancement, strategic planning for the National Library of Israel, and strategic and business planning for Friends of the High Line in New York City.

“While for-profit companies have a clear measure of success and access to capital markets,” notes David Gordon, “non-profit institutions have a multitude of objectives, a shortage of money and a variety of stakeholders, all which can produce complications. Gordon Advisory will bring clarity out of ambiguity, and is an invaluable resource for directors, boards and foundations, particularly during this time of great challenges.”

Over the past 12 years, David Gordon has developed a reputation as a turnaround director in cultural institutions. In 1996 at London’s renowned Royal Academy of Arts, he restored the organization’s finances following a major fraud, overhauled management, introduced planning systems for its major international loan exhibitions and proposed the modernization of the by-laws.

In 2002 at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Gordon, saddled with $30 million in debt from the opening of the Santiago Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion, initiated an exciting artistic and education program, built a strong management and working with the board president, eliminated the debt. He was active in the Association of Art Museum Directors and served on the board as the chair of the Public Affairs Committee.
