The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan and United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Executive Director Dr. Anna Tibaijuka will co-host a one-day celebration at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. The theme of “Planning Our Urban Future” is intended to raise awareness of the need to improve urban planning to deal with new major challenges of the 21st century so that our cities can manage and reduce the impacts of climate disruption, the economic crisis and urban poverty around the world.
“We are at a critical juncture in our planet’s history and there is a strong need to examine long-term, sensible approaches to housing and urban development,” said Malecha.
“Affordable housing, urban planning, and sustainable community development are long-standing AIA priorities and we are proud to be part of an endeavor that is promoting these ideals on a global scale.”
