Tessa Jackson is the founding Artistic Director of Artes Mundi, Wales’ International Visual Art Exhibition and Prize, a role she has held since 2002, combining this with running her own consultancy - International Cultural Development. She was appointed as Interim Chief Executive to Iniva in November 2008 and recently has curated exhibitions by NS Harsha and Chen Chieh-jen as well as Zineb Sedira. Tessa Jackson will continue to lead and curate Artes Mundi 4 before stepping down after the close of its exhibition.
Tessa Jackson was co-author of the Review of the Presentation of the Contemporary Visual Arts which led to Arts Council England’s 10 year strategy Turning Point (2006). As Director of the Scottish Arts Council (1999-2001) she contributed to Scotland’s first National Cultural Strategy, and as Director at Arnolfini, Bristol (1991 – 1999) she curated a range of significant exhibitions and prepared the way for its building re-development by appointing its design team and gaining an Arts Council capital lottery grant of £5.3m.
Iniva’s new home at Rivington Place, a RIBA award-winning building in Shoreditch, provides a public space for its dynamic programme. Tessa Jackson will lead Iniva into the next phase of its development as it engages with new ideas and emerging debates in the contemporary visual arts, reflecting the cultural diversity of contemporary society.
