The 2nd International Conference for Universal Design in Kyoto 2006
The theme suggests that sensitivity is required for materialzing decisive proposals in a considerate manner, while attention is paid to the humanity and dignity of human beings.

In the "International Universal Design Declaration in Japan 2002" adopted on December 4, Universal Design (UD) was stated to be defined as "creating a social environment in which individual characteristics are respected".

One year after, when the International Association for Universal Design (IAUD) was inaugurated in 2003, this statement was cited in the Association's prospectus, and has since been regarded as an extremely important concept.

In the prospectus, the conventional concept of UD is further expanded to the creation of a sustainable society in recognition of differences in culture and habit.

The expanded concept also suggests global environmental conservation and the way to sustainable design and trans-generational design.

IAUD seeks to contribute to the healthy development of society and improvement of the welfare of all humans beings.

In IAUD, participating as regular members are 130 or more companies, including large ones that take leading roles in the industries such as automobile, household equipment and electronic industries.
