Expecting to become the world’s premier design-think forum and to help businesses prosper and grow, the fourth annual Ringling College Sarasota International Design Summit 2010 is scheduled for February.
Keynote speaker will be Sir Ken Robinson, PhD, an author and world leader in creativity, innovation, and human resources. His new book, “The Element: Finding your Passion Changes Everything” is on the New York Times best-seller list. Earlier this year, the welcoming address to the entire student body at Ringling.
Other speakers include David Bromstad from HGTV’s ColorSplash, Steven Heller co-chair MFA Designer as Author, Dr. Carl Hodges atmospheric physicist, Alan Brody renown playwright and MIT Professor and many more.
To help businesses, the Summit comments: “Companies that innovate, reinvent, and adapt continuously are best able to compete in the global marketplace. But building a culture or innovation, and measuring its impact, can be daunting. So we invite world thought leaders in design to share their strategies and tactics in integrating design and business to create powerful emotional connections with customers and greater return on investment.”
Crucially, the thought leaders at the helm of the Summit will also share how they track and measure the results of their labors.
Dr. Larry R. Thompson, Ringling’s president, notes that design has increasing importance in driving the 21st century economy.
“So our speakers,” he says, “are fascinating, innovative, and influential thought leaders of design and technology. They’re different, but they share a common brilliance at problem-solving.”
He suggests that while the presentations from the stage are highly important, “the real magic happens in the hallways, at breakout sessions, and at happy hour when folks with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and professions interact. Imagine a restaurateur exchanging ideas with an animator; a hospital chief of staff asking the opinion of a mom and pop retailer, a design student chatting with a bank CEO. It’s the only place in the world where these conversations are facilitated; where these innovative minds can come together.”
