The Annenberg Space for Photography Features Pictures of The Year International
The Annenberg Space for Photography is pleased to announce programming coinciding with “THE YEAR” -an exhibit featuring winning photos from the 67th annual Pictures of the Year International competition. For the second consecutive year, the Photography Space will play host to the prestigious photojournalism competition, exhibiting stirring images from around the world in both print and digital galleries. The Photography Space will also offer two digital feature presentations, weekly IRIS Nights lecture series and a slideshow night presenting special photography related to the themes in the exhibit.

The “Behind the Lens” digital feature follows Los Angeles Times photographer Barbara Davidson on assignment while she documents innocent victims of gang violence in LA; as well as Brian L. Frank, a young freelancer who was recognized by POYi for documenting people in the American Southwest and in Mexico who are affected by the disappearing Colorado River. “Voice of the Photographer” will feature interviews with Marcus Bleasdale (Best Photography Book Award), Paul Hansen (Photographer of the Year — Newspaper), Thomas Lekfeldt (World Understanding Award), Tomas Van Houtryve (Photographer of the Year — Freelance/Agency), Stephanie Sinclair (Community Awareness Award) and Preston Gannaway (One Week’s Work Award) who offer insights and perspectives in their own words.

During the exhibit, the IRIS Nights lecture series will continue to be offered inside the Photography Space on Thursday evenings expanding on the images and themes presented in the galleries. Expected featured speakers include exhibiting photographers Elizabeth Kreutz (Sports Picture Story), Katie Falkenberg (Issue Reporting Picture Story Award of Excellence) and Renée C. Byer (U.S. Economy and The Human Toll Picture Story). Tentative schedule is below.

Additionally, three free portfolio review sessions are being offered during the two-day symposium, which will serve as the launch of a new monthly offering at the Photography Space.

All programming is free to the public with advance online registration at http://www.annenbergspaceforphotography.com.
