Nearly half of all adults (49%) said they trust the big three tech companies “completely or a lot”, the poll found, compared to the 8% for Twitter and 13% for Facebook.
Traditional media ranked lower than all these companies.
The reason for this, said Zogby CEO John Zogby to Reuters, is that “big companies have brand equity” and “corporate identity”, unlike Facebook and Twitter.
The survey also garnered responses from younger adults aged 18 to 29. While they have a higher trust levels in the social networking sites, their rating for traditional media dropped to 6%, compared to the 8% level for all adults.
While Google has come under fire in the media recently for obtaining private information via its Google Maps “Street View” cars, Facebook has since changed its privacy policies following protests from some of its users.
