London Design Festival Installs Giant Octopus in Trafalgar Square
The London Design Festival have announced the programme for its 2010 edition, held 18-26 September, with a massive Trafalgar Square installation highlighting it.

The installation, a giant mechanical octopus, will be designed by Germans Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram, in conjunction with car manufacturer Audi.

Titled “Outrace”, the creation will take the form of six industrial robotic arms from Audi’s production line and will allow members of the public to temporarily control the installation and write texts in light traces.

The 2010 London Design Festival, now in its eighth year, will be held throughout various locations in the city, including museums V&A and Southbank Centre.

Most of the festival is, however, made up of the “200 plus partner events that is rich with new work”, said festival director Ben Evans.

About 300,000 people attended the events of the 2009 festival.
