Colville-Andersen will be in Melbourne on 24 July as part of the Festival’s public programme Design for Everyone, which is set to engage and inspire people through a range of free and ticketed events and activities.
“If you help present cycling as easy and fast and accessible, branding it as an acceptable form of transport, they will ride,” said Colville-Andersen, who lectures worldwide on the subject.
“Less focus on safety - people aren’t stupid - more focus on the benefits of cycling - personal and societal - and you are planting the seeds of bicycle culture,” he continued.
Following Colville-Andersen’s presentation, the Melbourne Cycling Forum will take place featuring expert commentators who will explore the possibilities for redefining our cycling landscape with a focus on city cycling – to and from work – presenting it as a viable and sustainable mode of transport.
Other highlights as part of the Design for Everyone programme include “Iron Designer”, a ‘design stand-off’ in the same vein of Iron Chef, and “Edible Tales”, a dining experience that brings design and the environmental implications of the food industry together.
