This comes just three months after the social networking site announced it passed one million users, and after receiving a hefty US$20 million boost from venture capitalists.
However, other location-based social networks have beaten Foursquare to the punch; MyTown, Brightkite and Loopt all crossed the two million users mark before Foursquare, and Loopt currently has four million users.
At the time of this report, the two millionth account reads simply: Account #2Million, and is accompanied by a 'For Sale' image.
