French New Wave Photos Exhibit in London Gallery

While French New Wave is known for its Godards and Truffauts, there’s a lesser-known name behind some of most iconic work produced during that period: Raymond Cauchetier.

The French photographer was an on-set photographer of the nouvelle vague period, documenting it with behind-the-scenes shots and actual film stills. And now, for the first time, all his work are on display.

The exhibition, titled ‘La Nouvelle Vague will run in the James Hyman Gallery in London, of all places, from 14 July to 28 August.

One of Cauchetier’s most well-known photos was for Jean-Luc Godard’s A Bout de Souffle, where Cauchetier shot Jean Seberg and Jean Paul Belmondo strolling down Paris’ Champs Elysées, Seberg in that New York Herald Tribute t-shirt.

Expect lots of that smoky sultriness only the French can do.
