Tablets from as many as 20 different manufacturers including Acer, Dell and Sony were being touted by Ballmer, in a bid to challenge Apple’s king of the hill iPad, which has gone on to sell three million units since its launch in April.
Ballmer was addressing the company’s annual partner conference on 12 July, which was webcast.
“This year, one of the most important things we will do in the smart device category is really push forward with Windows 7-based slates,” said Ballmer. “This is a terribly important area for us.”
Do you think Windows-powered tablets can challenge Apple’s current grip on the nascent market? Would you buy an iPad (if you’re not already one of its three million users) or a Windows tablet?
