Android Phone Launches in...Space
A successful Kickstarter project has raised enough funds to send an Android phone to where no phone has been before: space.

The ‘Astdroid’ project, initiated by self-described computer nerd Danny Pier, raised US$2,000 that will see Pier attach an Android phone to a weather balloon to rise up into space.

Sounds crazy, but the 66 project backers certainly don’t think so.

During the phone’s flight, an app will be running that takes pictures and videos as well as sending back location information, enabling tracking of the craft.

A recovery parachute will be at hand to bring the phone “safely back to earth”, according to Pier.

The end goal of this bizarre project is to “have a stable Android application that has been proven to aid in getting the smartphone high into the atmosphere”.

Pier will be documenting the entire flight through various social media outlets, and he encourages others to follow his lead.
