Milestone releases from record labels are usually packaged in something spectacular, and the 100th Ghostly International release isn’t any different.
Instead of the usual jewel cases or 12” sleeves one might expect from a typical record release, Manzoku: The Ghostly Bento is packaged in a -- you guessed it -- handcrafted wooden bento box.
According to the label, the packaging was inspired by Japan and its “tradition of quality, service, and design”, and comes in an extremely limited quantity of 50.
The musical bento box, the lid of which is designed by LA artist Dosa Kim, contains a double-disc compilation of the label’s output, a micro-fibre Ghostly tie, and a pair of wooden Ghostly chopsticks.
Unique packaging might not be enough to save the struggling recording industry, but at the very least, it shows the one-up physical objects have against the iTunes juggernaut.
