Design Bikes for Africa
Wiki-Bike believes that bicycles aren’t just for moving around. The simple two-wheeled vehicle can be a “tool to reduce poverty in Africa, improve access to health care, education, potable water” and so on, according to the company.
And now, Wiki-Bike is now holding the ‘African Bicycle Design Contest’, which is accepting entries for sustainable bicycle designs produced with environmentally friendly and locally available materials.
The competition is split into two phases. For the first phase, Wiki-Bike is inviting anyone to submit their bicycling ideas and visions. Five winning contributions will be awarded in October with a design team.
In the second phase, the design team will prototype the idea and the winning team will be awarded with a trip to Kenya to see their bike in action. This winner will be announced in July 2011.
