The technology giant has announced a few days ago that its latest version of Windows—Windows 7—has sold 175 million copies in just nine months. This makes it the fastest selling version of Windows.
Huge Windows 7 sales have helped Microsoft bring in a total quarterly revenue of US$16.04 billion, surpassing rival Apple’s own US$15.7 billion record. Microsoft’s earnings are a 22% jump from last year’s figure.
Overall, for the 2009–2010 fiscal year, Microsoft posted a 7% increase in revenue, generating US$62.48 billion in total.
And next for the Redmond, Washington-based company is the cloud.
“Our transition to cloud services is well underway with offerings like Windows Azure and our Business Productivity Online Services,” said Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner.
So with all that talk about tablet domination, Microsoft is making sure the PC still has life in it yet.
