Not satisfied with Google Street View and Bing Maps Streetside, Microsoft are planning to launch a new city navigation technology.

Dubbed ‘Street Slide’, the technology will allow users to roam freely on the digital streets, unimpaired by the fixed cameras used by the aforementioned two street-mapping services.

Microsoft’s technology will use a combination of 360º and multi-perspective panoramas that adds a more “immersive” touch, the company wrote in a blog post.

‘Street Slide’ will be presented at the upcoming SIGGRAPH festival, and Microsoft will also report the results of a user study that gives favorable feedback to the new technology over the existing Google and Bing systems.
