If you thought that ‘Double Rainbow’ YouTube meme was a tad bit short, YouTube has good news for you. The video sharing website has taken Andy Warhol’s ‘15 minutes of fame’ adage and increased its upload limit from 10 minutes to 15.
And to celebrate this, YouTube has launched a contest of sorts. Product manager Joshua Siegel is encouraging users to upload any video of their “15 minutes of fame”.
“Tag your video with ‘yt15minutes’, upload it by Wednesday, 4 August, and we’ll select a handful of people to truly gain their 15 minutes of fame by featuring them on the YouTube homepage in a future sportlight,” Siegel wrote in a blog post.
The reason for this time extension has to do with copyright, apparently. YouTube has been beefing up its Content ID system—which copyright owners use to manage their content better—and because of its success, can now increase the upload limit.
