First, he took a detailed look at a typeface’s history, fans and critics. Then, it was product design that took center stage for his second feature. And now, Gary Hustwit is busy readying his third film in his ‘design trilogy’, Urbanized.
A documentary as well, Urbanized is about the design of cities; specifically, about the “issues and strategies behind urban design”, Hustwit wrote on the film’s website.
Hustwitt asks, “Who is allowed to shape our cities, and how do they do it?”, and conducts interviews with architects, city planners and futurists to answer that central premise.
Through the film—which is still in production and will premiere in 2011—Hustwit explores a diverse range of urban design projects across the globe, and will posit what the future city might encompass.
