To Social Media ‘Strategists’: Just What Do You Mean?

A website that’s ‘buzzing’ all over the blogosphere, What The F*ck Is My Social Media ’Strategy’ (phew), is taking a potshot at branding experts and social media advocates everywhere.

All the website does is randomize two columns of words—one for verbs and the other for nouns—that we see everyday in the social-media-as-branding speak. In other words, it’s all jargon that might or might not possess real, concrete meaning.

Each time you refresh the page, you’ll be greeted with a new ‘strategy’. Stuff like “Harness social currency to drive buzz” and “Target influencers with engaging assets to act as platforms for conversation”.

The website was created by Mike Phillips who claims “social media should be about making brands more accessible to users” and brand strategists shouldn’t be using such “fancy words” in presentations.

And if you find a strategy you like, post it up on Facebook or Twitter; after all, there’s nothing to suggest Phillips doesn’t actually believe in the power of social media.
