London Olympic Games Looking for Torch Design

For sports-obsessed designers, here’s a brief you might want to pick up on. The London Olympic 2012 Games are looking for a torch design; you know, the one they pass around before lighting the huge flame at the opening ceremony.

The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) and Design Council are encouraging designers, manufacturers and engineers to submit their interest to design torches, cauldrons and accessories for those all-important torch relays.

Those torches have got to be iconic and “represent the best of our nation”, said LOCOG CEO Paul Deighton.

Besides graphical identity, the torches need to be able to stay lit throughout the relay, and given London’s wind and rain, this might prove a challenge for designers.

So if you’re interested, you’ve until 22 August to register at the Design Council website.
