The Treehouse of the Future

A habitable glass-cube suspended in the middle of a tree? It sounds right out of a sci-fi flick, but two Swedish architects have built them in real life.

Pictured in the first image above, the Mirrorcube in Harads, Sweden is one of the few sculptural oddities at the new Treehotel. Designed by Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård, the hotel opened in July this year.

To prevent birds from crashing into it in mid-flight, the cube is also coated with an infrared film that is only visible to these birds. To access the Mirrorcube, guests have to use either the rope bridge or ladder.

Other upcoming cabins include 'The UFO', 'The Bird's Nest' and 'The Blue Cone'. If you have the cash to spare for a night at an unusual, eco-friendly boutique hotel, this is perhaps one worth considering.
