Soda addicts rejoice: your favorite soft drinks can be made at your very own kitchen in just three seconds. With the Sodastream device, tap water can be easily carbonated and flavored without much fuss.

Designed by Karim Rashid, the drinks maker provides an environmentally friendly alternative to store-bought carbonated beverages in the form of reusable air-tight bottles, which last longer than the regular ones from stores.

Though a laudable effort, the well-designed device still seems little more than a novelty item at this point. Given the ubiquity of brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, it is especially difficult to imagine how it would actually catch on.
