Even if you don’t have a Twitter account, you can still follow anyone, thanks to Twitter’s new ‘Fast Follow’ feature. It allows people—at least those in the US for now—to use SMS to keep track of Twitter updates and feeds.

All you have to do is text “follow [username]” to Twitter’s 40404 and you’ll receive tweets on your phone.

A Twitter blog post encouraged people to “try it out the next time you see a Twitter @username at a restaurant or store”, making the feature ideal for the casual, passive user who’d rather read than tweet themselves.

The micro-blogging site is also allowing people to signup for a Twitter account through SMS—the process is kept as simple as possible: just text “signup” to the same 40404 number.
