The National Aquatics Centre in Beijing is best known as the site where Olympic medalist Michael Phelps performed his many record-breaking feats.
Now, the 'Water Cube' of the Beijing Olympics has been refurbished into a fantastical water park, the largest of its kind in Asia. Complete with pastel-colored decor, gigantic jellyfish sculptures and ‘deep-sea tornado’ whirlpools and rides, the park certainly is quite a sight to behold. Designed by Toronto-based Forrec, renovation work took 10 months to complete.
All things considered, the facility has done fairly well for itself, especially when compared with the Bird's Nest. While the Water Cube had found new life as a water park, the huge stadium is still struggling to raise visitor numbers.
