What Happens When Cassette Tapes Meet Portable Hard Drives

It’s always fun when current technology gets nostalgic for the past. And Freecom’s newest range of portable hard drives, the Mobile Drive CLS, pays tribute to the hardware that defined the 80s: the cassette tape.

Designed by Belgian Sylvain Willenz for the German device manufacturer, these drives look and behave just like the old cassettes with their hand-written labels that reference their content.

There’s a dock for them as well; it allows three drives to be vertically stacked—enter the VHS and cassette tapes nostalgia—to use just a single USB port.

And to complete the whole retro look, these drives come with a translucent plastic case so you can up that 80s vibe on the go.
