North Korea Joins Twitter, Blogosphere Trembles

Already widely used by politicians and state officials, Twitter has just got an unlikely new government user: North Korea.

One of the country’s only media outlets, Uriminzokkiri (“Our Nation”), has established its presence on the micro-blogging site: @uriminzok.

According to a PC World report, Uriminzokkiri is one of the few websites believed to be run from the nation, and contains news and information on North Korea.

The first tweet—they’re all in Korean—was posted a few days ago, a straightforward declaration that “Our Nation” now has a Twitter account. Subsequent tweets linked back to the website’s various articles and news pieces.

But this Twitter account isn’t the secretive nation’s first foray into social media. Just a month ago, the same media outlet set up a YouTube account with videos that're all ostensibly propaganda. What’s next—a LinkedIn corporate profile for Kim Jong Il?
