Briton Breaks Record for World’s Fastest Ever Text Message

In what must be the technological equivalent of the 100-meter sprint, the world’s fastest ever text message timing was broken by Briton Melissa Thompson.

Her time of 25.94 seconds beat the previous record holder American Franklin Page at 35.54 seconds to take the crown, which is still awaiting official approval from the Guinness World Records.

In both instances, the message typed out was the same: “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in teh world. In reality they seldom attack a human.”

Her success was achieved by using the Samsung Galaxy S and its ‘SWYPE’ keypad, which allows users to type without their fingertips leaving the screen.

And it might seem like an impossible feat, but according to Thompson, she was “out of shape” in the texting arena.

She tells SkyNews, “I used to send a lot of text messages—40 or 50 a day to Chris [her boyfriend] alone so we both knew I could type fast. But since we moved in together and I started my job I haven’t been texting as much and, you could say, my fingers were out of shape.”
