While others shop for mechanical parts from the hardware store, Cory Barkman searches for his at junk yards to build his steampunk-inspired lamps.
And not just any piece of scrap would do; Barkman comes up with a theme for each lamp before he searches for the parts that would fit and work well together.
Such artful selection and assemblage of scrap pieces result in unique lamps with that mix of the retro and the contemporary.
Some pieces are functional too—they become switches and displays to measure temperature and time, for instance. These beacons of light however, cost far more than the sum of the scrap metal parts, with prices ranging from US$1,200 to US$25,000. Only for steampunk fans with the cash to spare, we would think.
