300,000 Websites in 1 Image

Here’s a quick way to see the busiest websites around today. A couple of programmers took the icons of the 300,000 most heavily trafficked websites and scaled each logo to reflect their viewership. So the larger the logo, the busier the website.

Here’s what the creators David Fifield and Brandon Enright wrote on the project website: “The area of each icon is proportional to the sum of the reach of all sites using that icon. The smallest icons—those corresponding to sites with approximately 0.0001% reach—are scaled to 16x16 pixels.”

And judging by the icon sizes, Google rules the internet roost, with a 11,936 x 11,936 pixel count out of the total 37,440 x 37,440 size—and Facebook and Yahoo! properties are tailing close behind.

There’s an interactive version of the image here.
