The folk at Good magazine, in collaboration with designer Amanda Buck, have crafted this infographic showing the most dangerous cities for pedestrians.
Of the three continents surveyed, North America had the most pedestrian deaths, coming in at an average of three per 100,000 residents in 2008—Atlanta, Detroit and Los Angeles topped the list with 10.97, 10.31 and 7.64 deaths per 100,000, respectively.
Asia is the safest with just one death on average. But the safest city in the world is Stockholm. The Swedish capital saw only 1.23 deaths per 100,000 residents.
It makes us wonder—are the huge disparities a matter of urban planning, traffic laws or something else altogether?
