Now we know they’ve gone too far with the lighting on buildings. Instead of just having a pre-programmed lighting façade, Project Iris allows people to control and change these lights remotely from a mobile device.
The project (Iris is an acronym for ‘Immediate Remote Interaction System’) is a joint research one from two universities in Germany, that connects a building’s exterior to a handheld device that users can manipulate. It made its debut at the recent Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
So by dragging a finger across a touchscreen, users can ‘paint’ the building any color they wish. Another feature let users play a jigsaw-like game on the building’s façade. Cool? Certainly. But functional? We’re not so sure.
