Europe to the Americans
Russia: full of ‘commies’; France: smelly people; and Italy: Godfathers. Through the eyes of Americans, this is what European nations look like.
In Mapping Stereotypes, London-based designer Yanko Tsvetkov charts a whole range of stereotypes of nations from another’s point of view. So while the Americans might think Spain is essentially another ‘Mexico’, to the Germans, the country is just home to lots of ‘cheap hotels’.
It’s funny, if a little offensive, but the question is: Who’s the one being stereotyped here—the European nations listed on the map, or the country labeling them?
