Karen O’Leary is further proof that cartography can be made art. Her hand-drawn and hand-cut paper maps bear with it an intricacy and dedication to a craft only an artist can boast.
All the pieces in her city map series is meticulously crafted by hand; each road, highway and building of the city carefully cut away to produce a cobweb-like version of street maps.
It’s a project that has taken the American O’Leary across continents as well—she has maps of Berlin and Madrid in addition to the more familiar Las Vegas and San Francisco.
