‘Dead Drops’ is a project by Aram Bartholl that has the artist install clandestine USB drives in public walls around New York.

The project is, in his words, “an anonymous, offline, peer-to-peer file sharing network in public space”. And he hopes people will notice these USB drives sticking out of the walls and plug their notebooks in to “drop or find files”. Each ‘drop’ contains a read-me text file that explains the project.

Bartholl has plans to take his project abroad to other cities, but for now, see a list of the hidden USBs in New York here.
