Smartphone Owners Not Brand Loyal, Survey Says

As smartphone adoption rates skyrocket, it looks like bullish times for phone makers. But according to a recent survey, not many smartphone owners are loyal to their brands, reports Reuters.

According to the GfK survey, 56% of smartphone owners globally aren’t tied down to a specific brand—only Apple fans show any sign of loyalty, according to the report. Just 25% of these users planned to stick to their operating system; and Microsoft users are the least loyal, with only 21% of them saying they’d stick to the software.


Research In Motion’s BlackBerry device owners were somewhat loyal (35%), followed by Google’s Android (28%). Even Symbian users (24%) were more dedicated to their gadgets than Microsoft’s are.

“Loyalty with a handset is a lot more complicated these days in that people buy into experiences at the high-end level,” lead analyst of the survey Ryan Garner told Reuters.
