SAN JOSE — Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced it has won a Best Overall award for energy efficiency from Flex Your Power!, a partnership of California's utilities, residents, businesses, institutions, government agencies and nonprofit organizations working to save energy. Adobe is among 36 organizations selected from 250 applicants for outstanding achievements in energy efficiency in five categories: Best Overall, Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, Education and Leadership and Innovative Products and Services. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will present Adobe with the Flex Your Power! award at the 2006 Energy Conservation Summit for major energy users on Friday, June 30, in Los Angeles.
"Adobe has a strong history of commitment to resource conservation, sustainability, and using state-of-the-art technology to meet our environmental goals," said Randy Knox, worldwide director of facilities and operations at Adobe. "During the past five years, Adobe has systematically identified ways to reduce energy and resource consumption in order to shrink our environmental footprint and reduce operating expenses. We are thrilled to receive this award and be part of the movement within the California business community toward greater environmental responsibility."
"We congratulate Adobe as one of only three Best Overall award recipients and applaud Adobe's ongoing commitment to saving energy, money and protecting our natural environment," said Wally McGuire, Campaign Director of Flex Your Power.
Joining Adobe in the Best Overall award category are the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB).
Adobe saves approximately $1 million annually as a result of its energy efficiency improvements. Working with facilities management firm Cushman & Wakefield (C&W), Adobe has improved lighting, plug loads, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment, and installed water-saving devices conserving approximately 295,000 gallons monthly. C&W receives 20 percent of its facilities management fees based on key performance indicators, including a requirement that Adobe's San Jose headquarters towers earn the ENERGYSTAR® label each year. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy offering a proven energy management strategy for businesses and consumers that helps in measuring current energy performance, setting goals, tracking savings, and rewarding improvements.
