Google Launches Latitude App for iPhone

Google has yesterday launched its Latitude app for the iPhone, adding on to the wealth of location-based apps already in the market. Previously, Latitude was available only on Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile devices.

With Latitude, users can see where their friends are in real-time—the app will continue tracking someone’s location, even when run in the background.

Users can contact friends by phone, text message, or email through Latitude.

“Since launching last year, Latitude’s focus has always been on one goal: make it simple to stay in touch with friends and family by sharing where you are with each other,” wrote Google software engineer Chris Lambert in a blog post, who added that more than nine million people are “actively using” Latitude.
