Google Launches Android into Orbit
Launching phones into orbit has been somewhat of a trend lately among tech geeks and space enthusiasts alike. Now, Google has hopped on the bandwagon in catapulting its new Nexus S phone into the heavens.
In a blog post, Google’s Zi Wang chronicles the entire process from building the rig to recovering the foam payloads. The team also posted up a YouTube video of the view from space.
The experiment isn’t that original, though. In July, a self-described computer nerd used a weather balloon to successfully launch his Android smartphone into space; and in October, a father–son duo did the same for an iPhone 4, capturing a beautiful video of the edge of the earth while doing so.
