The World Design Impact Prize wants to give designers and their worthy ideas the chance to do just that.
Unveiled yesterday by The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the prize aims to encourage designers to solve "actual social and humanitarian problems using the processes of the expanding field of industrial design."
Starting 22 February 2011, Icsid will begin accepting nominations from member organizations for exceptional industrial design led projects and initiatives that exemplify progress, impact and social responsibility in design.
Icsid President Dr. Mark Breitenberg expressed that the council aims for the prize "to be a great vehicle for social, cultural, economic and environmental progress throughout the world."
The World Design Impact Prize will culminate in the announcement of the Prize winner at the XXVII Icsid General Assembly on 27-28 October 2011 in Taiwan.
Winning ideas will be promoted by the Council through opportunities such as exposure through media partnerships, as well as a showcase within the 2011 IDA Congress and Icsid General Assembly.
Nominations can be submitted here. Submission closes May 10, 2011.
