The Daily to Launch Android Edition Soon
News Corp.’s iPad-only magazine The Daily will soon launch on Google’s Android operating system, reports All Things Digital, citing sources close to the matter. The Android edition is expected to launch in the second quarter of this year.
This development is in line with News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch’s vision to get The Daily on “as many tablets as possible”, All Things Digital said, but added the move is sooner than expected.
Although The Daily is purely a News Corp. initiative, the media company did approach Apple for technical assistance. Apple CEO Steve Jobs was himself supposed to attend the magazine’s launch, but due to his illness, sent another executive instead.
Murdoch was even quoted as saying then that the iPad was going to be “the dominant platform for us for a while”.
