Facebook Comic Hits the Shelves
By Facebook / IO, 24 Feb 2011
The comic based on Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has on 23 February hit the shelves. Mark Zuckerberg: Creator of Facebook will offer a “more balanced portrayal” of the young billionaire than the Oscar-nominated The Social Network film, its publishers Bluewater Productions claimed.
The comic was announced in September last year.
Written by freelance journalist Jerome Maida and illustrated by Sal Field, the 48-page comic treats Zuckerberg with a factual reverence. Maida said in a statement that his script “doesn’t shy away from the harsh reputation Zuckerberg earned”, but “tries to give context to a complex figure”.
“This is a fantastic story,” Maida said. “I enjoyed researching it because it’s extremely compelling. Think about it. Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire on the planet and created something that has already had a profound impact on the world. Yet hardly anyone knows much about him. It’s amazing.”
In addition, Bluewater said the comic will receive an animated film treatment similar to the Richard Linklater reimagination of Philip K Dick’s classic, A Scanner Darkly.
