The system will use mobile phones equipped with near-field communications (NFC) technology, Bloomberg said, reaffirming Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s previous comment that he wants the next generation of Android phones to “replace credit cards”.
Under this scheme, Google will pay and install “thousands of” special cash-register systems, reports Bloomberg.
Google may also allow the NFC technology on its phones to store information on a user’s financial information, store loyalty cards, coupon subscriptions and so on, Bloomberg said.
