With hundreds of thousands of apps in the many stores out there, just how difficult—or simple—is it to make a million dollars from making them? Pretty hard, if an infographic created by Instantshift and Wix is anything to go by.
The graphic contends that for a developer to make the seven-figure sum from apps, he or she has to sell 581,395 copies of that app.
Taking the average app price and subtracting the necessary cuts and processing fees, the infographic finds developers pocket an average of US$1.72 per app download. Instantshift and Wix then divided a million dollars by US$1.72 to arrive at the magic number.
The infographic also highlights three app success stories: Doodle Jump, which was downloaded five million times; Tap Tap Revenge at 15 million downloads; and Angry Birds, which net its developers Rovio US$4.5 million in profit.
