Start-up Incubator Launches Fund for Entrepreneurial Designers
500 Startups, a company that provides start-ups with seed funding, has unveiled a new fund dedicated to funding designers who wish to start their own companies, reports Mashable.
The d.fund, which will hold its first class in May, will give seed funding to “design-minded founders”, Mashable said.
500 Startups told the social media blog some of the world’s most successful start-ups were founded by designers who value user experience and human-centric innovation. These companies include YouTube, Tumblr, Flickr and Slideshare, 500 Startups said.
The fund will cater specifically to designers who don’t currently have business or technical mentorship, and will give them access to successful designer entrepreneurs, Mashable said.
To begin, d.fund is challenging the world’s top designers to invest US$50,000 to the fund by the end of the month. 500 Startups will then match the investments to create a “multi-million dollar investment vehicle for designer founders”, Mashable reports.
